For those looking for decent Rave-Rock music, there’s a hell of a lot of rubbish to sift through.
Fortunately, I’ve done that for you!
Here are my top 5 findings:
5. Myth of Unity
I came across these guys when arranging a YAWA show with them; a 7 piece band from England combining grimey rap, party trance and drum and bass. With some fantastic vocals and programming, these guys have hit the nail on the head.
Check out the track: Therapy
4. Spectrum 7
Another band I’ve gigged with – they have just increased from a 3 to a 4 piece, and they combine epic rock with great electronica. Catch them at a live show to really feel how immense they sound.
Check out the track: Serafin
3. Silent Descent
Woah, these guys are powerful. I found them when they contacted YAWA about organising some shows – think a death metal Slipknot with epic trance. It’s heavy as hell but beautiful at the same time. Great to hear some scratching in the tracks too!
Check out the track: Duplicity
2. Out From Animals
After meeting them at the filming of the MobileACT unsigned TV show, I have toured with the OFA lads too many times to count now and they never let me down at a show. Awesome energy, incredible vocals, funky interesting basslines and the best drumming I’ve ever seen live (Sean, the drummer, is actually the nicest guy in the world as well), these guys are one of the hardest working and most interesting acts I’ve ever come across.
I consider myself the luckiest person ever to have found Celldweller on a random myspace trawl. It’s one guy, “Klayton”, who produces the most incredibly professional sounding music I’ve heard. It’s no wonder every track off his debut album is on a game, tv show or movie somewhere. Anthemic Trance, Nu-Metally riffs and the best use of synths I’ve ever heard – Celldweller is actually amazing.
Special Mention – You and What Army
I figure it is too egotistical to put my own band in the Top 5 list, but you should also check out You and What Army for a fix of Rave/Rap/Rock once you’ve hit up those other artists!
