The epicness of your performance on stage is directly proportional to the length of lead tying you down. If you have no lead – you have no limits.
I have experience with both wired and wireless systems and I’m here to prove once and for all that wireless is the way forward for your stageshow…
When I got my Shure Wireless SM58 mic for £300 I was sceptical as to whether or not it was worth it. One year on and I don’t regret it at all. It has given me the freedom to jump off the stage and into peoples faces, dragging them to the dancefloor, moshing with the hardest looking guy in the venue – these are the kind of things that will get you remembered if you can do them *while* performing.
It’s all about the freedom to move. With a wired mic you always get the odd gig where the XLR lead just won’t stay in, and you realise that no-one has heard the last verse you just put your all into. No such worries with wireless.
Plus, not as much tripping up! I say not as much, since if you are running around so much that you can barely think enough to avoid some inconveniently placed steps, (which by all rights you should be) then the occasional trip is inevitable.
Guitarists can enjoy the ability to spin to their hearts content, which is always entertaining. Plus, you get to feel like a class A idiot practicing your songs in your room whilst spinning around as fast as you can. Awesome.
Drummers… Well wireless headphones for keeping in time with click tracks save a hell of a lot of winding up excessively long leads after shows.
So have a think about it – go wireless if you can afford it!
