There are a million people in the world trying to make brilliant quality music, but only a few of them seem to be able to transform those tinny synth presets into immense, powerful soundscapes. I have just figured out how, so it’s time to blow off the lid on this secret…
It’s all about the source. EQing can help, but if you have a source sound that has no bass and you want a bassy sound, no amount of boosting the low end is going to help you there. It *is* feasible to get the perfect, immense, epic sounds straight out of the synth. Then everything else is just polishing the masterpiece instead of polishing a turd!
It might seem obvious to some of you, but when you see every preset is lacking it can be easy to assume it’s impossible to get a professional sound out of a synth – sometimes it’s just a case of trying your own hand at making a patch!
Samples are the same – a weedy sample that is *almost* what you want can rarely translate into exactly what you want. This can be assisted with layering – if you find a sample that has the hi end you want, and a sample with the low end, play them simoultaneously and do a bit of mixing to get the sample your music has been screaming for!
