Picture, if you will, an epic rave taking place in outer space while giant robots are destroying the world.
You’re getting close to what my band sounds like.
We’re called “You and What Army”. We are a 4-piece Rave/Rap/Rock band hailing from the oh-so-thriving music scene in Telford, England. Before you go on any further, I suggest checking us out live:
Who we are

You and What Army is:
Dave (That’s me!) – Vocals / DJ / Synths / Programming
Kieran - Vocals / Guitar
Jamie - Bass / Backing Vocals
Zak - Drums / Backing Vocals
What we are about
When it comes to live performance, we are thoroughly of the belief that a band should create an atmosphere. We believe when you see bands that stand still and play their back catalogue at you without involving their audience, you may as well listen to a CD. A band should engage their audience, keep them involved and make them enjoy the experience of a live show.
Musically, we are never held back by traditional genre boundaries – we write music that we find powerful, beautiful and frickin’ cool. Whether that comes in the form of a tectonic-plate-crushingly heavy riff, a beat you’d normally find coming out of a lowrider in the projects, an epic symphonic orchestral piece or intense electronic sounds, chances are you’ll find it in our music.
Regarding our image, we are kind of obsessed with giant robots, so chances are you’ll find them on 99% of our merchandise.
What we have done
During the band’s 3 years of activity, we’ve:
- Been on Channel 4 TV on the show “MobileAct Unsigned”
- Played shows with signed bands such as “Hadouken!” and “Kids in Glass Houses”
- Played over 100 gigs all over the UK
- Produced our own EP: “Soundtrack to the Apocalypse” which is available on iTunes
- Been played on Kerrang and BBC radio
- Been featured in Rock Sound magazine
Where to find out more
You can listen to our music over on our myspace, but the majority of our communication to our fanbase is done on facebook, so if you add us on there you’ll get more up-to-the-minute news about what we’re doing! We also have a youtube channel where we put up live footage, video blogs and other stuff!
You can buy our music on iTunes here.
I’ll also be periodically posting about my experiences with the band on this site, especially when we do things that are useful for up-and-coming musicians to know about – so you might want to subscribe to boyinaband so you don’t miss out on any of that!
