About The Boy

Hi! I’m Dave from Boyinaband.com and I have a feeling that in later life I’m going to regret making that my catchphrase.

Hi! I'm Dave from boyinaband.com

This is totally what I look like in real life

I’m a 22 year old, living in Telford, England – a town famous for being both the highest concentration of roundabouts in the UK and having the highest teen pregnancy rate (my pride knows no bounds.)

I am an experienced music producer and I want to:

- Help other people to learn how to make their productions sound more professional…
- Expand their horizons about all the amazing music that’s out there, and…
- Build a community of people who also wish to learn and teach.

Why you should care about what I have to say

If qualifications are your thing, I passed my BTEC Music Technology course with a distinction, as well as recently completing my degree with honours in BSc Computer Games Programming and Computer Games Design at university, where I focused on audio for games.

A clearly flattering picture of me performing in my band You and What Army

But perhaps more important is my practical experience: I’ve been producing music for over 5 years now, with 4 of those years spent in my home studio. I’ve recorded bands, produced electronic music and recorded bands that produce electronic music (That would be my band.)

Since Picking up the Bass Guitar at age 16, I’ve explored the mediums of Turntables, Synths, Drums, Guitar, Vocals and Computer Music respectively (Though as of yet, not all at once.)

I have huge passions for music, video games and the Internet. Sticking to the former, since it’s more relevant to this blog – I love music of pretty much all kinds, not limited to; Cheesy boyband pop, growly death metal, obnoxious gangstuh rap and euphoric uplifting trance. Preferably in the same song.

I’m a perfectionist – I spend hours of my time and all of my money trying to find out how to make things sound professional. Then I put what I learn into videos so you can learn the same things that took me years of painful trial and error to figure out in under 10 minutes at a time.

I will not claim I’m an expert by any means, but I do have a lot of experience and I’m always learning new things. As I do so, I will be sure to pass on what I learn through this site.

My band, my blog and my dream

It can get pretty hot on stage.

I’ve been in bands for about 7 years, my current band “You and What Army” has been going for nearly 3 years now. In that time, we’ve been on National TV, been on the brink of being signed by big labels, supported signed bands and toured all over the UK.

I’ve been blogging for about 2 years, with this site having existed for over a year. It has grown considerably over that time and continues to do so.

As both my band and my blog grow, so do my ideas – I have big hopes for what I can accomplish by combining my passions for music, the internet, British humour and trying to help people for free.

Still want to know more?

I hope that has enlightened you a little about the boy behind the blog. If you haven’t already, check out the other sections that explain about…

  1. In a word, Thank you!

  2. I am infinitely grateful for all of your help, you tutorials are fantastic and I support everything you do for us. Once again, THANK YOU!!!!!

  3. Dave, I admire your drive and ethic. Keep up the good work. I LOVE making music and have since I was a child, but have never been around many people who push for professionalism or who are good at teaching or talking about the nuts and bolts of music until recently. I’ve kind of been the only one interested in something no one else around me. Bless the internet, though! I have finally found a small nucleus of artists who work well together and I want to be able to produce a few songs I feel will be hits if I can capture their spirit.
I also look forward to learning about dubstep, a form I have recently been indoctrinated to in the clubs and LOVE (It’s so HEAVY!).
    Once again, good work, Dave!
    Sincerely,

    Alistair

  15. I really appreciate the fact that you have taken the time to create such informative tutorials. You have helped me out so much and inspired me to create different genres of music. I was mainly focusing on sampling and hip hop, but became bored with it kind of quickly. I need to be learning something new all the time. That’s where dubstep and you came into the picture. You are by far the best teacher for this on youtube. Much love.
