What should a good music website have?

Are you lost on the website? Got a relationship crisis? Just watched independance day and are worried that Will Smith might not be as badass in real life if that situation ever occurred? We'll help you come to terms with it here!

What should a good music website have?

Postby Renzio42 » Wed Apr 11, 2012 7:26 pm

Hey guys! At the moment I'm in the perfect mood for working on my website!
Here is what it looks like at the moment: http://www.renzio42official.com
So like you see it doesn't have any very unique features. It's mainly just a mirror of my soundcloud page, with a basic layout.
Now I have the question: What should be there, what should that look like?

Here is a list what I want to do:
- A better way to show all my songs etc. (Hint: That pointless Releases link in the horizontal bar!)
- add the info that I'm an energy drink geek to the about me page

Here is a list of things I did:
- getting a better domain name aka http://www.renzio42.com (I have the domain now, gonna hook it up tomorrow)
- Putting the social box to the right side + new background + no more button! It's logos now!
- Changing main font to sans-serif aka Arial on Windows + size:15px because Arial looks too big
- Make a horizontal menu for the basic pages
- change the name of the about me page to Bio just because it sounds more professional and because I can!
- change the background of the content section to a dark grey

Just so you know: Time is not my problem!
And yes I'm doing everything myself (expect that soundcloudplayer).

Another smaller question: Should I continue using the soundcloudplayer or should I switch to youtube?

The art for your songs looks really nice (make sure to embed those into the ID3 tags too, it makes iTunes look nice and provides a nice visual memory aid for the music). I don't think the look of the site itself lives up to that standard. The top logo is ok but using that font for the links on the side is something I strongly recommend against - it doesn't look good.

I'm not an artist or a designer in any sense but I've seen a ton of iffy websites. The fonts are my biggest gripe with your site - the one for the links is too odd and I'm not convinced Times is a good font for body text. Also, sometimes white on black can be hard on the eye!

Just recognized it myself, yes it actually is the same font o_O
And it's perfect that you are no designer! You just see the website, how it is, which makes it easier to give my advice on what looks bad ^^

Edit: ID3? I hate those guys who forget them ^^ I always put the tags in the mp3s when I attach the cover picture. With mp3tag thats just easy work :)
Edit2: Is that font better?

Yeah, that's better I think. You'll have to see it in context to be sure, but I think that' easier on the eyes.

I'm still looking at the site, but my first thing to say is, don't stop soundcloud to move to Youtube. Do both at the same time. ;)

Or are you referring to the manner in which you've embedded the tracks?
I sing :)
Send me your tracks and i'll check them out - i only ask that you listen to mines too!
