Randomness of trancegate

Tell us how you got that killer synth effect, why you love your sequencer of choice or that you are sick of hearing the same lame preset every time you load up malstrom ¬_¬

Randomness of trancegate

Postby Anteara » Tue Jun 05, 2012 12:08 pm

Hi all, I'm new to electronic producing but have seen some awesome dubstep/psytrance songs with some killer gating in their leads / bass. Looked this up and it seems they use TranceGates. fair enough, I downloaded TranceGate and killerGATE+, some freeware trancegates, and they both work great. HOWEVER, I have ONE problem, and that is that the gate is random... let me explain...

This might be my gate pattern: O is indicitive of Open, as in the sound comes through...

O - O O O - O - O O O - O O O - O - O - O O O - O

Let's just say that's my pattern. I expect it to start EVERY time from here: (look for the ^)

O - O O O - O - O O O - O O O - O - O - O O O - O
^

but instead, even when i pause the track, the gate keeps going and it just starts in a random spot when I press play. I NEED it to start at the same spot EVERY time otherwise it sometimes sounds good and it sometimes sounds bad.

Does anyone know how to get it to start at the same place, every time? Sorry if this is daft, and sorry if my explanation is bad.

Thanks!

Pretty sure there has to be a "sync" knob or a "restart" knob (which will make it restart everytime a new midi note is played.

Seems that trance gate doesn't sync with your daw.
BTW you should mention which DAW you are using. I think each DAW has it's own native gate plugin that would work better with native DAW.
But you should check if your tranceGate plugin have somekind of SYNC or something similar button.

Alright I'll try that, and my DAW is Ableton.

Thanks, I have to go to school now so I'll try when I get home.

And now we only need the name of the trancegate ;-)

Maybe I helped but most likely I was quite useless. Comment on my tracks to show me how it's to be done! Please?
