For music production, absolutely.

For Windows Gaming on the other hand...

Windows 7 hasn't as well ;-)
If you take a deeper look at W7 you'll see that the RAM used by the OS is addressed dynamicly... I've got 4 Gig and had about 2-2,5 Gig free and available RAM... My girlfriend has 2 Gig and she has about 1-1,5 Gig free available RAM... It also works on a 1GB machine, but than you REALLY start to curse your avarice that prevented you to buy more RAM ;-)

But: More RAM = more performance... That's true to certain amount of RAM ;-)

Maybe I helped but most likely I was quite useless. Comment on my tracks to show me how it's to be done! Please?

Basically, yeah. However, it does cap at a certain point, though.
Like i said before I have 12GB
Physical Memory (MB)
Total:12286
Cached:1282
Available:10541
Free:9455
Physical Memnory: 14% ( 14% of 12,000 is 1680)

So as you can see, it's not using 50% of my RAM still. Is it pathetic that it takes THIS much to use RAM efficiently? Ohyes. However, look at Windows98, when 128MB wasn't enough and people cursed up a storm. Actually... every windows release has caused this concern.

Nequissimus wrote:It also works on a 1GB machine, but than you REALLY start to curse your avarice that prevented you to buy more RAM ;-)

I can only imagine. It's insane you know that from experience. :D

Nequissimus wrote:But: More RAM = more performance... That's true to certain amount of RAM ;-)

Depends on the applications. Or services as it becomes about once you get to servers that have anywhere from 64GB to 1TB of RAM.

HOWEVER!! Even though every Windows release has caused an issue about how much RAM someone should have... the architecture has changed GREATLY since 84. Mac's OS is still UNIX with a pretty face as it always has been.

Ok, my geek is showing, i'm done for this one. :P

It's great to be geeky ^^ My geekiness is my profession ;-)
I've run Win7-Computers. Yeah... It's completely ok for Internet or Office-Purposes (If you don't use Powerpoint which should be used with a ridiculous amount of RAM :-D). With the Laptop of my girlfirnd it's actually quite comfortable to work with photoshop... And with my Lap on 4 Gig I never had any Problem caused by my RAM...

And yeah... there are applications that need a lot of RAM... Is Reason a 64-bit-Software? Ableton is not ;-) Without the softwarecore running on 64 bit the program has the same Problem as any 32bit OS as well... addressing memory ends (in the best case) at 4 gig... that's what most games still suffer :-D
And servers are other dimensions ;-) Taht sucks :-D

Mac hasn't changed becaused there is no need to. Windows shouldn't have to. Windows XP was the shit. Windows Vista was just like a horrible Mac rip-off and Windows 7 was the second version of that. Waw, great changes.

Fanboy :-P

I work with vista atm and there was never a problem with this "oh so horrible" system ;-) And yeah... Compared to Win7... XP is shit... without the... Higher performance, better usage of the RAM, Serverprograms (LIke the connection managers) are better to understand for noobs... ;-)

Hehe indeed, Rmon is pure fanboy ;) XP was definitely not 'the shit', no windows product has ever been. HOWEVER the reason I will always chose windows over mac is that, as a non-noob user, I have so much more control over a PC than a Mac. Sure, windows is broken in so many way, but you can get around that so easily. And yes, Vista was even more broken, but it's just because they wanted to spew out some new crap to get some money. Windows 7 is fine. They did the same some years back - they released windows ME (millenium edition, or whatever) and that was megabroken, and then not long after that XP arrived.

I'm no windows fanboy, as they really don't have the best products, but I get around it so well. And I'm neither rich nor hip enough to own a mac ;)

i just don't get the point of improving something that is fine already. XP was powerful, was simple to use, even kinda elegant, but they had to go make it all graphic y. That's Mac's trademark. Hell, i still work on a 4 year old XP of 1000 euros, which works a million times better than a new Windows 7 for the same value. I also still work on a 8 year old iMac which I have had no trouble working with at all. 2 GB RAM, barely 2 Ghz intel dual core, and i can work with logic with a couple of Massive instances, rewired to Reason and controlled by a shitload of controllers without latency troubles. I'm sorry, I do indeed not know a lot about computer, and frankly, i don't give a shit, because people keep telling me what is better, when, obviously, the Mac for me is better. All of my windowses have crashed at least once in 3 years period. My mac has never even got stuck. Not once. No viruses, no slowing down with the age. Maybe it's because i don't know how to treat my windows, but hey, then i prefer the easy way and choose Mac, which doesn't need treating.

I also sit on a 5 year old XP, and I love it :) But when the time comes for an hardware update, Xp just can't keep up. I agree with the graphic thing, but then again I just turn everything of that off. And well, that thing about Macs not slowing down and never crashes is just a blatant lie :P I've had exactly as many crashes on Macs as I've had on PCs. But ofc it's all about comfort, it just get's on my nerves hearing everyday by someone that Mac is so much more incredible than everything else. And seeing iPhones, and iPods, and iLols everyday pisses me off ;p

And IMO, the reason there are so few viruses to Macs is that there are no Mac users that are able to program :6:
