Headphones for mixing and mastering...

Postby abletondeath » Sun Nov 27, 2011 3:41 pm

I`m going to rent an apartment soon, however people usually prefer silence that`s why they often ask "are you a musician" in the beginning and refuse your application if you are.

The only possible alternative is the use headphones... Is it a good idea, or should I quit music programming? I heard good reviews about KRK KNS headphones, but are they enough in and of themselves? (I use only software plugins to make music)

Definitely don't quit. That's a little bit of an overreaction.

Headphones are better than nothing, and if you've got no other choice, then it'll have to do. I've never heard bad things about audio technica ath-m50 headphones or sony mdr-7506.

There's more than one thread on this.

Don't quit abletonedeath, but do take the time to search for threads on headphones. there was some good information in those threads that I can't recall. so...

shit i'm in the same situation..but don't worry, most people listen to music on headphones anyway...so if you mix that way and do it well, doubt you'll get any complaints!

if you absolutely have to get professional gear, i recommend Sennheiser HD380 Pro monitoring headphones - $150 best price

(btw, my latest track was mixed on $15 dollar chat headset. sounds crazy, but think about it...if you can make music sound great on the shittiest headphones, imagine what you can do on high end)

I'm using Sennheiser HD380 pros. Fantastic headphones for monitoring and mixing, soon as I got them I gave them a listen and started noticing things I'd never noticed on tracks that Id heard a thousand times over.

The audio leakage can be pretty severe at high volumes but the accuracy makes up for it. I always do mixdowns using them just because my speakers can't match the detail and I got to keep at a low volume.

Also they're really comfortable and robust which is a big plus for headphones :)

What we really need to do is create a powerful sense of dread. See, the longer the note the more dread.

I do all my mixing on my koss portapros cause theyr better than my speakers atm. some logitechs with a subwoofer that kinda falls in and out (and i guess you shouldnt mix with a woofer anyway). Also i like doing it on headphones cause you kinda get your privacy more. But im def gonna buy some studio speakers soon.

Oh and dont think im recomending the portapros, im gonna wish for headphones for christmas those Sennheiser HD380 pro sound good and i kan see their in the right pricerange to:)

those sonys are pretty expensive and the ATHs to but i guess you get what you pay for in most cases..?

So I got some headphones for christmas but is there a good place to go to find out if the sound is "colored" or not? They kinda look like the "fashonable" kind with like 10 different color options and the pack reads "Fat bass" and "compitable with all iphones"....oh and feel free to imagine me doing quotation marks with my hands like a douche^^

Any way there called AKG K 518 LE
