Could really use some feedback on the mix / mastering. I don't have many systems to compare it between at the moment as I normally would since I'm traveling, but I went with my gut on this one and winged it with just my monitor headphones. :?

Love the huge kick at 0.47, and the beat is very solid when it drops, not too sure about the intro melody, sounds like it could go up a few notes at the end of the progression so it resolves in key... The breakdown could have a bit more variety, and you could add a few extra layers to flesh the overall sound out a bit.

Having said that, the best thing about this track is the drums when they drop, they are very punchy and clear. Kick and snare sound big! Just add a bit more overall variety to the track, maybe make it longer and do some more buildups. Im listening on headphones as its early, but ill give this another listen through my KRK's later on and possibly drop another comment to say how it sounds through them...

Great basis for a track, but definitely do some more to it, could be awesome! :)

feel free to slate/like my newest electro/house demo too :D

Thanks a lot Elementz!
I agree, I had a short discussion with Voyager 1 on the track, and I'm definitely going to roll over the whole thing and add in some more synths, layers, etc, and variety. I have a cool idea for a halftime breakdown appended onto the end of the track before giving it one last drop. Thanks again, I'll definitely check out your track too when I have more than just laptop speakers available to me haha. If you could take a listen on those KRK's and get back to me, that would be sick too! I only have a set of monitor headphones, and just a 40watt Crate amp for open listening at the moment. Looking into getting my first pair of monitors soon though, do tell me how you like the KRK's you have, it's one of the brands I'm considering.

Cheers!

Just had a listen through the monitors, drums sound great, but you need to bring up the basslines a bit, give it some more low end. Pretty good going for headphone mixing, I have to use headphones a lot of the time as I am constrained by neighbours, flatmates and a girlfriend who likes watching tv a lot (my studio is my bedroom lol) so I know how hard it is to mix on them.

My KRK setup is rokit 6's which are a pretty good set of active monitors. They have a decent frequency response, and they go LOUD. Also I have a KRK sub to go with them but dont get to use that much either. If you are looking for a decent sound on a budget, I would definitely recommend them. Even the cheaper Rokit 5's are a decent set and will make a world of difference in your mixes compared to headphones.

Hope that helps a bit!

Awesome man, good to hear, I'll definitely kick up the low end some more :]
And thanks for the props on my mixing haha. And I know exactly what you mean (also a bedroom studio), I can't wait to get a house of my own so I don't have to wear damn ear muffs while I'm working throughout the day haha.

I'll definitely give the Rokits a look through, thanks! I am indeed on a budget haha, and my ears need the break.

Thanks for all your help!

Nice! I honestly wasn't expecting it, but the drop here was intense. I can't give a lot of advice on the mix as I'm listening on my shit headphones, can't find my good ones. But, I am definitely digging this.

Feeling this and i agree about the drums, good solid punchy backbone but they seem to come in a little early and out of nowhere o me. Try building a little more tension before it kicks in.
Likin it though man! (y)

Thanks man! I think what really made it pop was how I kept the intro at a moderate db level, and just let things jump to full throttle for the drop, making it stand out that much more.

Agreed, I do want to add more of a buildup, mainly on the first drop. Maybe a nice long legato slide and a muted sidechain to get things bobbing. Thank you :)
