Aggrotech Questions

Postby Obsydian » Tue May 01, 2012 2:36 pm

I've been trying to make an aggrotech song for the past few days now, specifically akin to the likes of Tactical Sekt.

Unfortunately I am a terrible producer and have had absolutely no success in doing anything or making anything even remotely sound good and within the genre. Well, except for drums. I was able to get some drums I was overall happy with.

So anyway I have a ton of questions and was hoping that maybe somebody here would have experience in the genre and could help me. Essentially I'm wondering how typical aggrotech style leads, pads, and such are made. So far my only production experience has been in Dubstep, with a brief foray into attempting DnB. I haven't found what I'm used to sufficient in making aggrotech.

I also have a rather more specific question. At the very beginning of Tactical Sekt's Not Going to Work that Way, there are only drums. But there's something else going on I think that's making it very full, but I can't for the life of me figure it out. Anybody have any ideas?

I honestly have never heard of that genre xD

I listened to the Not Going to Work that Way you mentioned, and it does sound very aggro :D But the synths and such don't seem to be anything too special, and my word of advice is to try to produce one sound at a time :) I know it's not much, but still.

And for the sound you were looking for in the beginning of the track? I think it's some kind of synth stackato with release/reverb. Try sawtooth-phase-reverb-combo, at least that should get you started.

Good luck :)

Aggrotech is essentially trance when it comes to production. Just search for tutorials of trance leads and basses and stuff. The only real difference would be to make it less melodic (to make room for the vocals) and put some distortion on the kick to make it a bit harder and industrial.

I have produced agrotech some years back, nothing REALLY serious, but descent tho.
My favorite is Psyclon Nine - first two albums are just monstrous!
Agrotech have trance like synth, but IDEAL for agrotech is - GENESIS CM and probably just GANESIS vst plugins.
It have some bugs on real-time playback, but works like charm. There was awesome saw pad and some leads.
